The Sites of Doel "Deurganckdok" and the Mesolithic/Neolithic Transition in the Sandy Lowlands of Belgiumreprint (b)3 Final Mesolithic sites (1 = sector B/C, 2 = sector J/L, 3 = sector M)Dating of sectors B and J/L: food crust dates before 4500 cal BC unreliable, all other dates (sector B) show presence around 4500-4300/4200 cal BC...
LITHICS:
-Wommersom presence
-assemblage clearly similar to Late Mesolithic, but also differences:
-irregular small trapezes, no flat inverse retouch
-presences of pièces esquillées
POTTERY:
-basic knowledge of pottery manufacturing taken over from southern Neolithic traditions
1 MK site: difference with SWB
LITHICS:
-new tool types
-high q flint import
-no typical meso tools and r.m. (Womm)
NEOLITHISATION
-wetland occupation: gradual change in interaction and contact with Neolithic of the loess region (SWB model)
-sandy dryland occupation:
°not pottery producing h-g (SWB): no evidence
°no intense occupation/exploitation: shift in site location pattern (decreasing number of sites from middle of 8th M onwards, concentration along river valleys)
-most radical changes end of 5th M: total and presumably definitive disappearance of Mesolithic
[=> Meso doorlopend in deze regio's tot MK occupatie, dit houdt evenwel geen rekening met aard SWB fenomeen (op het einde toch redelijk wat neo elementen)]
